Description

Toyota Motor Corporation’s R series is a family of 5-speed RWD/4WD transmissions found in the MKIII Supra Turbo, Toyota Crown, Toyota Chaser Tourer V, Toyota Mark II Tourer V, Toyota Cresta Tourer V, and Toyota Soarer (turbo) up to 2004. 
 
The R154 is made by Toyota, Japan. As with most Toyota driveline components, the R154 has a quality design and performance. Unfortunately, as always seems to be the case with modern technology, there is always a downside.
 
The R154 is a conventional 5-speed gearbox, with five forward gears and a straight-cut reverse gear. The reason for the strength of the gearbox is clear to see even by the naked eye. The external housing and the gears themselves are credibly sized for a performance-oriented gearbox.

The R154 is a 5-speed transmission found in the MKIII Supra Turbo, Toyota Crown, Toyota Chaser Tourer V, Toyota Mark II Tourer V, Toyota Cresta Tourer V, and Toyota Soarer (turbo) up to 2004. 
 
This particular gearbox is from a JZX100 from a Chaser or MK II. These are the "Remote Shifter" styled boxes without an external fulcrum, so would be perfect for any JZ conversion. The bell housing face to the gearstick centre is shorter than the JZX100 R154.
 
These transmission dimensions are 765mm from the bell housing face to the gearstick centre / 735mm from the bell housing face to the rear of the dust shield / 595mm from the front of the gear casing to the gearstick centre.

Note: The inspection plates on either side of the Bell Housing, Clutch Fork, Yoke or Speed Sensor do not come with the gearbox.

  • Third Gear: 1.310:1
  • Fourth Gear: 1.00:1
  • Fifth Gear: 0.753:1

Genuine Toyota's new transmissions are only pre-filled with fluid to prevent the internals from corroding during storage and shipping. This gear oil is insufficient and must be drained before use. 
Please have this fluid drained and the transmission refilled upon installation with the correct specification gear oil before any operations.
