The torque biasing principle uses internal worm gears to progressively transfer drive from one axle to the other when there is a loss in traction. It does this almost without feeling through the steering wheel, which is especially beneficial in front wheel drive vehicles or when installed in front differentials in four-wheel drive vehicles such as the Nissan GTR. 
Anyone who has driven a front wheel drive vehicle using a clutch plate or viscous LSD will understand the amount of difference the torque biasing design makes. Not only for the feel and comfort, but more importantly, when it matters during spirited driving and track use due to the pure handling improvement, especially over an open differential, making it a beneficial upgrade to your vehicle.

Our Differential

The 'SVS' Torque biasing differential is manufactured in the heart of the UK by Longford Gear Cutting Co. Ltd, an engineering company with a long history of driveline component manufacturing to their name. Established in 1946, the Coventry-based firm has previously been known in the industry for its manufacturing expertise. With their proven name in engineering, they have become one of the biggest suppliers of driveline products to companies in the UK, Europe, and the rest of the world.

Recently, Longford Gear Cutting Co. Ltd decided to draw on its 70-plus years of motorsport engineering experience and manufacture its own performance driveline products under the Ul-Trac brand. It worked closely with companies like Special Vehicle Services Limited to develop products exclusively for them, using UK-sourced materials in its UK-based manufacturing facility to produce a quality home-grown product.

Why the SVS Differential?

With a timeline that dates back more than 30 years, Special Vehicle Services Limited, or 'SVS' as they have always been known, has been at the heart of torque biasing differential development for the performance Japanese car market since 1992. As well as handling relations between some large UK and Japanese manufacturing and tuning companies, 'SVS' has worked within the torque biasing differential market for over three decades. At the turn of the Millennium, Special Vehicle Services Limited had developed a six-speed sequential transmission and front torque biasing differential for the contemporary GTR of the time; the Nissan R32, R33 & R34 models. A product that sold worldwide and led the company to develop an equally popular rear differential for the same application, and then subsequently front and rear torque biasing differentials for the Nissan R35 GTR models. 
Between 2021 and 2024, 'SVS' decided to switch UK suppliers and align with a manufacturing company with similar values. This saw a strong relationship being forged with Coventry-based Longford Gear Cutting Co. Ltd, who were about to launch their own ULTrac brand of torque biasing differentials. First onto the market are the torque biasing units for the front of the original Nissan GTR (BNR32, BCNR33 and BNR34) and the R35, using the combined experience and knowledge of Longford and SVS to produce a torque biasing LSD unit that benefits from long term development on important areas like gear design and tooth profiles. This enables maximum surface contact and, in turn, will fully harness the power that is required to deliver. Aided by heavy-duty springs to reduce wear and maintain pre-load. 
A rear unit for the R32, R33 & R34 GTR Non V-Spec is likely to follow in the coming months, but SVS found that there was no benefit to upgrading the R35’s rear unit and so has no plans to develop a unit for this at present.
