AMS Performance is an engineering company first, and our Snailworks Engineering Team developed the Nissan Z 80mm Air Intakes with a singular goal: maximum airflow. Featuring the largest diameter piping and MAF housings available for the VR30 platform, this system represents the highest flowing intake on the market. By reducing intake restriction and pressure drop, the 80mm design allows the turbos to operate more efficiently, resulting in cooler compressor outlet temps, improved turbo response, and sustained power delivery at higher RPM. Extensive flowbench analysis and in-car validation confirmed a significant increase in volumetric efficiency, with max gains of +30 WHP, and an average of +24 WHP above 5000 RPM. This engineering-first approach ensures that the AMS Nissan Z 80mm Air Intakes not only deliver unmatched airflow capacity but also maintain precise metering and stable drivability when paired with the provided MAF calibration data.

Slow is Smooth and Smooth is Fast

For maximum efficiency, the airflow path into the Z’s twin Garrett turbos must be as unrestricted and laminar as possible. Our AMS Snailworks Engineering Team engineered the MAF housing and silicone couplers with carefully optimized geometry to create a seamless transition between components, minimizing turbulence and pressure drop. Each connection is designed to maintain consistent cross-sectional area and smooth flow, allowing the turbos to breathe with less effort. The AMS Performance Nissan Z 80mm Air Intakes take the opposite approach by allowing the turbos to draw in all the air they need for maximum performance. The organically shaped inlet tubes are engineered for precise fitment and reduced pre-turbo restriction, with gradual bend radii and smooth size transitions that deliver uninterrupted airflow to the compressor inlets. To validate this design, our AMS Snailworks© Engineers conducted extensive back-to-back dyno testing against the factory intake system. In fully open configuration, without stock-sized MAF insert sleeves, the 80mm system produced an incredible +30 WHP maximum gain over stock, with an average of +24 WHP gained above 5000 RPM, and torque increases throughout the entire RPM range. The result is not only more top-end power but also improved drivability and stronger low-end response. Unlike competitors who cherry pick selective peak numbers, our results are averaged across multiple dyno runs to provide accurate, repeatable, and trustworthy data. Results That Speak For Themselves

When it comes to airflow, numbers don’t lie. Our AMS Snailworks Engineering Team put the OEM intake system, a leading competitor’s intake, and the new AMS 80mm Air Intakes to the test on our state-of-the-art MAF-based flowbench. Each system was evaluated under controlled conditions, with airflow data captured using a MoTeC dash and datalogger to replicate real-world demands. The OEM intake quickly revealed its limits, showing roughly 1.9 psi of depression at approximately 560 WHP of airflow. The competitor’s design offered a modest improvement before seeing it’s own restriction. The AMS 80mm Air Intakes, however, changed the game by moving dramatically more air, supporting that same 560 WHP at only 1 psi of depression, showcasing a nearly full PSI less restriction than stock. At equivalent pressure drops, the AMS system flowed significantly higher than both OEM and competitor intakes, cementing its position as the largest and highest-flowing intake solution on the VR30 platform. The data proves it: if you want maximum airflow and maximum horsepower, nothing comes close to AMS.

Tuner-Friendly by Design

At AMS, we know that designing the largest, highest-flowing intake on the market is only half the battle — the other half is ensuring it integrates seamlessly with the vehicle’s ECU. That’s why our Calibration Team went above and beyond by developing a complete ECU calibration guide specifically for the AMS 80mm Air Intakes. Unlike competitor systems with oversized MAF housings that leave tuners struggling with inconsistent placement, poor MAF orientation, and idle quality issues, our solution is engineered for precision. Support brackets secure the MAF housings and filters in place, while keyed MAF sensor flanges and silicone turbo inlet hoses ensure consistent alignment, eliminating installation guesswork and drastically reducing calibration time. Our ECU calibration guide includes AMS-developed MAF calibration strategies, Throttle Airflow (TAF) relearn procedure, and radiator fan speed curves all developed by extensive dyno and real-world testing. Product Notes

  • Please be aware that there are two separate instruction guide files available for this product. The first is a physical installation guide, and the second is an ECU calibration guide intended for professional tuners.
  • The AMS Performance Nissan Z 80mm Air Intakes include OEM-sized MAF insert sleeves, which allow installation without the need for ECU tuning. For customers configuring the system in a fully open configuration (without the OEM-sized MAF insert sleeves), custom ECU tuning is required. To support this, AMS provides detailed MAF data and an ECU calibration guide to make the tuning process easier, faster, and more precise.
  • The filters use specially designed media that allows performance and efficiency to be restored to near new each time by simply using compressed air (30-40 psi) from the inside out, making frequent washing unnecessary in order to restore filter performance. For a deep cleaning from extreme environments, a biodegradable cleaner such as Simple Green or other mild shop degreasers can be used.
    Simply place the filter in a solution or spray the cleaner on the filter. Allow the solution to loosen the particulate and then rinse thoroughly. Shake the filter or use compressed air from the inside outward to remove residual water and allow a full day or two to dry.
